Simple and elegant in approach, this residence is a special example of environmental design that includes both architecture and landscape under the direction of one designer. We were given the freedom to maneuver the architecture and to integrate the building structure with the exterior landscape. In addition, the construction supervision also came under our umbrella, so we had added control by association with the construction process. The landscape design includes a ceremonial entry statement and a water concept that surrounds the house and extends into interior spaces. The refined interior and exterior use of water establish an intimate connection with this pure element. Water has throughout history been treasured and valued in this part of the world. As a pure design material, it symbolizes richness, generosity, and a purity of spirit. At MK Associates we made a considerable effort for the success of this project. Careful planning procedures were conducted. 500 sheets of detail and construction drawings were done. We out sketched ourselves with each new drawing for this residence. At a later stage, every detail was modeled on the computer.
